We regularly have students taking the Series 65 or Series 66 exams. Studying for either one of these can be like studying for the Series 7 Exam. The biggest difficulty is in keeping everything top-of-mind at the same time. In today’s post we will describe how you can do that.
Taking the Series 65 or 66: Juggling
For anyone taking either exam, at Professional Exam Tutoring we first recommend that you start with Kaplan. With almost 10 years running a tutoring business almost solely focused FINRA and NASAA exams, Kaplan consistently represents the best. Students that do well with Kaplan tend to do well on the exam. And unfortunately, the reverse is also true.
One reason why we also recommend Kaplan is that they allow for very granular focus in there question bank (QBank). Being able to take practice questions on specific subsections becomes very helpful and wastes little study time.
In order to maximize how much you can retain during anyone period we recommend our effective study approach with Kaplan’s material.
Do What Works
First, we highly recommend that you start with two full practice exams after you read the text.
The point of these two exams is to get a relatively consistent view of your strengths and weaknesses. From this point on we recommend you focus on specific drills for two or three days at a time in areas where you need work.
After those “drill days” we recommend that you do another full practice exam. From this practice exam, we recommend that you use Kaplan’s Performance Tracker to see where you came up short – of specific importance will be sections that are heavily weighted. The next two or three days should then include drills on practice questions just from those sections where you came up short that are heavily weighted.
Continuing with this process will ensure that you continue to retain the areas in which you’re scoring well, and fill in the areas where you’re having trouble. All the while you will continue to see all other sections with the full practice exams we recommend that you continue with, every three or four days.
While there’s no study method for any of these exams, we’ve found this to be very effective! Better yet, it works on most students that follow our instructions closely. Trying to juggle all of the Series 65 or Series 66 material can be difficult and some structure can help. If you’d like more help, or some more advice, feel free to reach out. Good luck!
